Governor Newsom at 2021 State of the State

(Sacramento, CA) – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) has issued the following response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2021 State of the State address:

“California’s leadership and determination continues to prevail despite the unprecedented challenges we have faced. I will continue working with our Governor to provide additional relief for residents and small businesses, make sure our region gets our fair share of vaccines, accelerate mass vaccination efforts in vulnerable areas like ours, and continue advancing equitable public policies that not only meet our immediate needs but put forward a strategic vision for our future.”

“This pandemic has shone a grim light on the deep-set public health, housing, environmental, and economic disparities that rendered underserved California communities, like those in my district, more susceptible to COVID-19. In order to defeat this pandemic, we must continue to prioritize protections for our essential workers and hardest-hit communities."

"We now have a unique opportunity to align our economic recovery with our public health and climate change goals for the benefit of all. We have been moving initiatives that go hand in hand with our Governor’s policy agenda. We have introduced a climate bond measure, which includes allocations to combat pollution, prevent wildfires, and ensure clean, safe drinking water for families, as well as legislation to stimulate a competitive California-based lithium economy to help meet the Governor’s zero-emission vehicle targets and create jobs in areas of our state with the highest unemployment. As one united California, we will get through this crisis stronger than ever.”
