2023 Legislation

2023 Legislative Accomplishments

I am pleased to share that Governor Newsom signed four of my bills into law!

These laws increase access to licensing exams, support injured workers, expand healthcare, and assess alternative sources of renewable energy.

Here is more information on my priority legislation:

AB 451 – Department of Insurance Non-English License Examination Expansion: Requires the California Department of Insurance’s examination for the license of a life agent, accident and health or sickness agent, property broker-agent, and casualty broker-agent to be provided in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Tagalog.

AB 489 – Workers Compensation Sunset Extension: Extends, until January 2025, an existing pilot program that provides injured workers with the option to receive temporary compensation and permanent disability indemnity payments through prepaid debit cards.

AB 904 – Doula Coverage in Private Health Plans: Requires health care service plans and health insurers to develop a maternal and infant health equity program to expand access to doula services. Health plans may also convene a doula working-group to examine the implementation of these programs.

AB 1172 – Integrated Energy Policy Report on Fusion Energy: Requires the California Energy Commission to submit a report to the legislature assessing the use of nuclear fusion as a reliable source of clean energy.
