SACRAMENTO, CA – Several pieces of legislation by Assemblymember Lisa Calderon (D – Whittier) were signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on the afternoon of Friday, July 16th.
“This last year, California has faced monumental challenges that have affected all aspects of daily life: from confronting a once in a generation pandemic, to accurately counting our communities during the decennial census, to combatting an unprecedented wildfire season at the peak of the hottest summer in the state’s history,” stated Assemblymember Calderon. “I am pleased to announce that Governor Newsom has signed four of my bills to protect workers and bring resources to working families that were affected by the pandemic.”
Among the legislation introduced this legislative session, Governor Newsom signed the following:
- AB 289 – Classified school employees: merit system: adoption and termination.
- AB 712 – Local Agency Public Construction Act: change orders: County of Los Angeles
- AB 742 – Personal income taxes: voluntary contributions: School Supplies for Homeless Children Voluntary Tax Contribution Fund.
- AB 1004 – CalWORKs eligibility: income exemption: census.
A number of measures continue to advance through the California Legislature that seek to address access to telehealth, increase awareness of severe air quality during wildfires, and provide resources for those granted asylum in the state, amongst others.
