In Light of Draft Supreme Court Roe v. Wade Decision, Assemblymember Calderon to Fight for a Woman’s Right to Choose

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – In light of a draft Supreme Court opinion from a majority of justices that could lead to the overturning of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion access for women across the country, Assemblymember Lisa Calderon (D-Whittier) issued the following statement:

“Monday’s late night revelation by Politico, that the Supreme Court was moving to overturn Roe v. Wade, was once thought to be unimaginable. Upon hearing the news, my heart sank for the millions that will be affected. This could change the lives of women, daughters, granddaughters, and families in ways we cannot yet comprehend. Many forget what life was like for women before Roe v. Wade.

With 26 states actively seeking to ban abortion, some organizations expect an increase of up to 1.4 million out-of-state individuals of reproductive age finding their nearest clinics in California.

In light of this report, I will continue to fight with my colleagues to protect these rights for a woman’s bodily autonomy and support bills in our legislature to codify a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her health.”
