Assemblymember Calderon Reacts to Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe V. Wade

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTOAssemblymember Lisa Calderon (D - Whittier) reacts to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, paving the way for states to ban all access to abortion services:

“The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade is a travesty that sets back 50 years of progress in reproductive health for individuals across the nation. Access to reproductive services are essential to family and healthcare planning.

As states move to ban abortion access, upwards of 36 million people could stand to lose access to essential healthcare services, with some organizations expecting an increase of up to 1.4 million out-of-state individuals of reproductive age finding their nearest clinics in California.

This is only the beginning of the Court’s assault on personal freedoms, as it is clear that contraception and marriage equality could be next. In light of these revelations, my colleagues and I are committed to protecting established rights and strengthening access to reproductive health care services.”
