(Sacramento, CA)— This year, Governor Gavin Newsom has signed six bills authored by Assemblymember Lisa Calderon (D-Whittier) into law.
- AB 226 – The FAIR Plan Stabilization Act: Ensures the FAIR Plan has the claims paying capacity to support its policyholders.
- AB 234 – Increases transparency of the FAIR Plan by allowing the Speaker of the Assembly and Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Rules (or a designee) to serve as members of the FAIR Plan Governing Board.
- AB 798 – Adds Children’s Diapers and Wipes to the State Emergency Food Bank Reserve Program to provide children’s diapers and wipes during natural or human-made disasters. AB 798 is also a 2025 Legislative Women’s Caucus priority bill.
- AB 888 – The Safer from Wildfires Act: Assists qualifying homeowners with wildfire mitigation projects, such as installing fire-safe roofs, five-foot defensible space clearing, and community-scale resiliency projects.
- AB 1003 – The Californian Breathe Act: Expands protections for lung health by establishing a deadline for the state to complete wildfire smoke mitigation timelines to be included in county emergency plans.
- AB 1197– Reduces rental car theft by modernizing existing rental car laws.
Additionally, AB 487 authored by the Assembly Committee on Insurance was also signed the Governor to make minor, non-controversial, technical amendments to various sections of the state Insurance code.
“This year, my legislative package centered on the needs of all Californians. These bills are solutions to improve insurance market stability, disaster preparedness, and affordability.” said Assemblymember Calderon.
