I am pleased to recognize the accomplishments of local Hispanic leaders in my district. These honorees embody the spirit of our great state, elevating our community through entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and cultural programming.

Mark regularly organizes events for veterans, such as annual holiday food drives and monthly potlucks, which serve as opportunities to connect veterans to resources. He has deep roots in the area and is regularly bringing attention to local veterans’ issues, such as homelessness, mental health, and food insecurity, among others. |
Ruben Hernandez, North Whittier/Avocado Heights

Ruben Hernandez founded the North Whittier Neighborhood Watch/Avocado Heights Association in 1989, a community group dedicated to reducing gang activity and graffiti. He enlisted the help of former gang members to help draw vines throughout the neighborhood to dissuade further tagging. Over time, the gang dissolved, leading to significant revitalization in the area. Today, Hernandez continues to lead the association, hosting monthly meetings to address concerns and foster a sense of unity within the community. He remains a key figure in maintaining public safety, regularly acting as a liaison between residents, public safety officials, and elected representatives. |
Sandra Hahn, Whittier

Sandra Hahn is a prominent Whittier community leader who advocates for small businesses and the arts. She is an Arts Commissioner for the County of Los Angeles and Founder of the Arts Fest in Santa Fe Springs. The Arts Fest brings together artists from throughout the region to display their creativity and promote their art pieces As the owner of the Crêpes & Grapes Café, she gives her time as a representative of the Whittier business community. She served as past president of the Greater Whittier Chamber of Commerce. |
Santo Fish Restaurant, Pico Rivera

Under the leadership of Mr. Noel Garcia Lopez and his team, Santo Fish has cultivated a strong relationship with the city of Pico Rivera by actively supporting community events and collaborating with city leaders. |

Yolanda is the proud owner of Casita del Pueblo, a hub for local artists in Uptown Whittier dedicated to bringing art, culture, and education to the community. Yolanda’s annual Los Muertos Uptown Festival, which celebrated its 19th anniversary, has become a community staple. In addition to her role as a small business owner, Yolanda is the former Board Chair of REACH, an organization that advocates for children with disabilities. Inspired by her son, who has autism, she is passionate about supporting families and raising awareness of the special needs community. |
