In the Capitol
Legislative Roundup
I am excited to share that six of my bills have been signed into law, each addressing needs in our community to deliver real solutions. These new laws will:
- Require the California Public Utilities Commission to include long-term solutions to lower our utility bills in their annual report on California’s energy market;
- Increase transparency in healthcare by disclosing the use of Generative AI in patient communication when not reviewed by a licensed healthcare professional;
- Expand protections under my previous legislation, the 2022 California Ban on Scholarship Displacement Act, to include Cal Grant eligible students;
- And more!
I am committed to fighting for you in Sacramento!

Around the District
My team and I have been working hard to support local projects. Here are a few recent highlights:
The Greater Whittier LGBTQ+ Center
I am proud to have collaborated with Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn to establish the first LGBTQ+ Center in the region, located in the City of Whittier.
This center promotes well-being in our community by creating a safe and supportive space for all!

College & Career Fair
Another highlight this year was the 56th Assembly District College and Career Fair— hosted in the heart of the district. This year, we welcomed over 1,500 students and parents to La Puente High School, where they connected with over 80 college and career representatives, attended informative workshops, and had the chance to earn scholarships. This fair is an important tradition in our district, and I am excited to continue supporting our students as they plan for their futures.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
California celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. This is a time to honor the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of the Hispanic community.
To mark the occasion, I recognized several outstanding Hispanic leaders in our community:
- Discover Print Shop, Hacienda Heights
- El Pirata Mexican Seafood, Diamond Bar
- Mark Tavera, El Monte/South El Monte
- Sandra Hahn, Whittier
- Yolanda Garcia, Whittier
- Noel Garcia Lopez & Santo Fish Restaurant, Pico Rivera
- Ruben Hernandez, Avocado Heights/North Whittier
You can read more about their amazing work here:
