Several campesinas including, Executive Director, Suguet Lopez, traveled to Sacramento to receive recognition at the 4th Annual California Nonprofits Day Ceremony.

These bills focus on critical district concerns such as improving special needs services, building safer communities, and ensuring greater accountability for Salton Sea mitigation.

Positive Direction: Local Discussions to Move Forward

 

(SACRAMENTO, CA) —Today, the Assembly Appropriations Committee placed a hold on AB 854 (Mayes) turning the measure into a two-year bill with the intention of allowing for local discussions and negotiations to move forward. Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) has issued the following statement in regards to the positive direction of these talks and the future of Imperial Irrigation District’s electricity service in the Coachella Valley:

The ordinance follows the 2018 passage of AB 626. The bill, which was authored by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella, expanded the kinds of foods home-based businesses can sell, from baked goods like pan dulce to cooked items like carne asada tacos.

“It decriminalizes a practice that has been going on for a long time and creates an economic empowerment opportunity for people who want to make a living from something they already do at home and enjoy doing,” Garcia told the San Francisco Chronicle after his bill became law last year. The bill received support from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle but garnered opposition from several associations representing the interests of county governments and health inspectors worried about sanitation.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) — Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) has issued the following response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s revised 2019-20 budget proposal:
